Johnny Rivers had been around since the early 60's, but it was this song, "Secret Agent Man," that put him at the top of the charts and the beginning of a truly varied and distinguished career for the rest of the 1960s and throughout the 1970s and beyond. The song peaked for two weeks at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on Cash Box Top 100 from April 23 to May 6, 1966. One of my other favorite Rivers tunes, one of many great hits by him, came in 1977 when "Swayin' To The Music (Slow Dancin')" hit the airwaves in the summer. The lead guitar solo on "Secret Agent Man" is at least as legendary as the 1960 version of "Walk, Don't Run" by The Ventures. Both were the first guitar solos I ever learned (oh yeah, and "Day Tripper" by The Beatles too), but nowhere as good as the guys that played them. Rivers makes it look easy, but to do it RIGHT is anything but. In this video you'll see another guitar player who will play lead guitar riffs while Rivers sings, but when the big solo comes it is Rivers that wails the notes out, regaining his composure fast enough to resume the vocal. Some scenes from Sean Connery as James Bond and the TV series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. also appear in this otherwise synchronized music video of a live televised performance by Johnny Rivers at Hollywood Palace on May 6, 1966.
When i was 8 years old at streets of Free Town District at Lima Peru, i listened this song inside the car of my oncle Pancho. The car driver was don Emilio, he was taking my cousine to her house´friend. Beautiful days of infance.
Very cool song! :) I was slow in commenting on this one, as I tried to watch before but got an error, so now I'm back :) He's got a great voice, and I enjoyed seeing the live footage. Another great video Mike! Have a nice day your way. Christine
When Dean wakes up in the woods, no longer in Hell, he goes to find Sam and Bobby. While stopping at a gas station for supplies, Dean is overcome by a piercing noise as the windows shatter around him. Once Dean gets to Bobbys and confirms that he is really himself, the two find Sam and speculate how and why Dean returned. After visiting a psychic friend of Bobbys (Pamela), they discover this creature is called Castiel, but also that it is very powerful; a single glimpse burnt out Pamelas eyes. After summoning Castiel in a warehouse. After rock salt and Rubys knife prove ineffective, Dean asks who he is, to which Castiel replied that "I am the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition."
Confused, Dean presses what Castiel means by this, Castiel shows Dean the shadows of his wings and telling him that God has work for Dean to do.
4.02 Are You There, God? Its Me, Dean Winchester.
Castiel appears to Dean in a dream set in Bobbys kitchen, and confirms that the spirits who attacked them were Witnesses. He tells Dean that Lilith summoned them, and that in so doing she broke one of the 66 Seals. He explains that the angels are fighting to keep the other seals intact, because when the last one is broken, Lucifer will be freed.
